Heavy Equipment Operator

We are looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in the Streets Division of the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for construction and maintenance of City streets and right-of-way. This position operates a wide variety of equipment and vehicles, specialized machinery and tools while keeping constant attention to safety. The 2017 salary range is $45,861 - $62,708 with new hires usually starting near the lower end of the range. City operations are currently located at 2450 E Quincy Ave, Englewood but will be moving to 2101 W Quincy Ave, Englewood.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and repairing streets, including digging out old damaged asphalt, shoveling asphalt, patching potholes and street cuts with asphalt hot-mix.
  • Performing street overlay and crack-seal operations, making concrete repairs on curbs, gutters and drainage structures, and placing and finishing concrete and gravel.
  • Ensuring that streets and sidewalks are clear, including plowing snow, sanding streets, and sweeping streets, gutters, and sidewalks.
  • The position reports to the Streets Operation Supervisor and Director of Public Works. May take direction from the Right-of-Way/Project Manager.
  • Position is intricate to City’s overall customer service provided to residents of Cherry Hills Village by providing maintenance to City roads.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Three years of related experience with equipment.
  • Class B CDL required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
  • Satisfactory driving record is required for employment.
  • Experience with motor graders and asphalt pavers preferred.
  • Ability to perform manual labor including but not limited to shoveling and raking dirt, asphalt and other materials.
  • Must be able to tolerate a variety weather conditions which may include wet, humid, snowy, sunny, very hot or very cold conditions.

Parks Maintenance Worker/Equipment Operator

The City of Cherry Hills Village is seeking applicants for the position of Parks Maintenance Worker/Equipment Operator. This position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of City parks and trails, as well as a variety of other maintenance tasks within the Public Works department. Superior teamwork and customer service skills are essential. Related experience is preferred. The 2017 salary range is $42,752 - $57,623 with new hires usually starting near the lower end of the range, plus an excellent benefits package. City operations are currently located at 2450 E Quincy Ave, Englewood but will be moving to 2101 W Quincy Ave, Englewood.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Using a variety of light and heavy equipment (i.e. chainsaws, wood chippers, trail sweepers, backhoes, mowers, loaders, snow removal equipment, tractors, spraying equipment, single axle trucks, hand tools, power tools, trailers, and water equipment) to maintain City parks, trails, and open space.
  • Performing the maintenance of City-owned park facilities and grounds, street rights-of-way including tree plantings, and landscaped facilities such as entry features and islands.
  • Plowing snow, sanding streets, sweeping streets, gutters, and sidewalks, cleaning and maintaining ditches, cleaning culverts, picking up trash and debris, and cutting branches.
  • Maintaining grounds and turf in all parks, trails, and street rights of ways and City facilities by mowing, trimming, weeding, and grooming.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two years’ experience in park or ground maintenance.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain a valid class “B” commercial driver’s license within three months.
  • Must be able to obtain pesticide and herbicide license and certified landscape technician certification (CLT) within the first year of employment.
