Building Permits
Cherry Hills Village will be adopting the 2024 I-Codes at the beginning of 2026. Please contact the Building Department for more details.
Permit Submittal Process
Due to user requests, industry standards, and changes in technology, we have recently updated how permits are processed. Our intent is to create an easier experience and increase transparency. Please read and follow the steps below.
All aspects of permits, including applying for new permits, permit revision, checking the status of pending permits, paying for permits, scheduling inspections, and reviewing the results of plan review will now be handled through our online portal. You will need to register and get approved before you are able to log in. While we will approve your registration as soon as possible, it may take up to 24 business hours.

Follow instructions in the Portal and/or e-mails
- The portal will be your central hub and will let you know the status of the permit application.
- E-mails will be sent at every stage to let you know the status but be sure to look for new documents that have been uploaded to your permit.
- If you need to send a message to the review team or upload another document, simply go to "My Dashboard", click on "My Permits", and then click on "update".
Important Notes
- Cherry Hills Village does not issue Contractor Licenses. If you are anything other than an electrical contractor, you do not need to register as a contractor with the City. Once you have portal access, you can apply for a permit.
- All plumbers working in the City must be licensed by the State of Colorado. You do not need to register with the City, but you must have your license available if an inspector asks to see it.
- All electrical contactors need to register with the City. Please send the following items to buildingdepartment@cherryhillsvillage.com:
- State Electrical Contractor License
- State Master Electrician License
- Driver's License of the Master Electrician
- All electrical work requires a separate electrical permit. All HVAC and plumbing work can be done under the main building permit if it is part of the scope of work. Otherwise, they will also have to apply for their own permit.
- Any demolition over the trigger limit will require CDPHE approval. Please go here Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notesfor more information.
- Most additions and some remodels may be required to pull a ROW Construction Access Permit. Please call Public Works to discuss your project and see if one will be required for your project at 303-783-2744 or go here Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notesfor more information.
- For any work that will disturb more than 1 acre of land or if the project is within 100 ft of a floodway/floodplain, a Stormwater Construction Permit may be required. Please go here Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notes Important Notesfor more information.
- Any additions to residences that are protected by a fire suppression system will also be required to be protected by a fire suppression system. A copy of the approved permit and plans from SMFR will be required before any building permit will be issued.
- For any additions to existing residences that do not have a fire suppression system, then a completed fire flow analysis and set of plans shall be electronically submitted to South Metro Fire Rescue at www.southmetro.org using record type RFFA. A fire flow analysis consists of gallons per minute (gpm) per required fire hydrant, appropriate number of hydrants, and their spacing based on the gross square footage of the residence. These requirements can be found in the 2021 International Fire Code (IFC) Appendix B and C. Please contact the appropriate water district or third-party vendor to obtain the required information. Based on the information that is submitted to SMFR, improvements to the water distribution system or fire suppression system may be required. The reviewed fire flow analysis is required before the building permit can be issued.
- A Certificate of Occupancy will be required for all Major Addition and New Single Family Dwellings permits prior to occupancy.
- If more than 2500 SF of impervious surface is being added (house addition, driveway, patio, etc.), a Phase III Drainage Plan will be required. Please note that this SF calculation is cumulative with any previous impervious addition from ~2019. For example, if a 2000 SF addition was constructed in 2021 and a 500 SF patio is being applied for now, the total impervious surface would be 2500 SF and a Phase III Drainage Plan would be required for the patio.
- ANY addition or removal of imperious surfaces requires a permit.
