Municipal Court Frequently Asked Questions

You will need to check in with the Bailiff. You will be given a written copy of your Advisements of Rights. You will meet with the Prosecuting Attorney to discuss the charge against you, and after that the Judge will call each person to the podium individually in the order you checked in with the Bailiff.

We are not allowed to give legal advice. If you would like to speak to an attorney,  you can ask the Judge for a continuance and come back at a later date.

Yes. The Municipal Court Clerk will schedule your trial and give you written notice on when to return. It is your responsibility to be sure you have all your witnesses available on the day of your trial.

We would prefer that children not be brought to court. If you do need to bring them, they must remain quiet.

Jury trials are only granted if the charge you’ve been given has jail time associated with it. All jury requests must be submitted in writing and accompanied by a $25 jury fee.

It depends on when you check in with the Bailiff, but generally it will last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

The fine is determined by the Judge based on your charge and driving record.

Cash, money orders, checks, and all major credit / debit cards are acceptable forms of payment.

If you cannot pay your fine, you can ask the Judge to grant an extension. If an extension is granted, you will work with the Municipal Court Clerk on an acceptable payment plan.

Depending on the charge, the Court may issue a bench warrant for your arrest and / or your driving privileges may be suspended. If a warrant is issued, you will be responsible for paying the additional warrant fees along with your fine before the warrant will be cancelled.
